How many hours do I need to renew my Texas plumbing license?
Six. TSBPE requires 6 hours of approved continuing professional education before you renew a Master, Journeyman, or Tradesman Plumber Limited license. Apprentices holding certain endorsements and medical gas endorsement holders have their own requirement, so check your license type on the TSBPE site.
What has to be in those 6 hours?
State law requires part of the hours to cover health protection, water conservation, and energy conservation. The rest is code, law and rule changes, and safety. Our course is built to hit every topic the current TSBPE rules require, and none of the filler.
Can I knock it out online?
Yes. TSBPE allows CPE in person, live virtual, or by correspondence, and correspondence can be completed online, as long as the provider and course are approved. We are building online correspondence, a paper workbook for the guys who would rather have paper, live virtual classes, and live classes in Dallas Fort Worth.
I am taking a licensing exam. Does online still count?
Exam applicants play by a different rule. If you are applying to test, confirm with TSBPE whether you need classroom hours before you pick correspondence. Ask us and we will tell you straight, even if the answer costs us the sale.
How do I prove I did it?
Approved providers report your completion to TSBPE and issue a certificate. Our plan is the certificate emailed to you the minute you finish, and your hours reported to the board inside the window the rules give us. No waiting two weeks on a piece of paper while your renewal sits there.
Who is actually teaching this?
Ian Martin, Texas Master Plumber, TSBPE License #47421. Twenty plus years in the trade. Apprentice, journeyman, then foreman on commercial work, followed by years of medical gas, lab waste, purified water, and process piping in research laboratory and pharmaceutical buildings in Southern California, including work for Qualcomm, Pfizer, UC San Diego, the Salk Institute, and City of Hope. He teaches plumbing and construction management at the college level too. One instructor, no rotating cast of narrators.
Is the course approved yet?
Not yet, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The applications are with TSBPE. We will not sell a seat until approval is issued, and this page changes the day it is.
What is it going to cost?
$95 online or on paper. $100 for a live virtual class. $115 for the live class in DFW. Classes at your shop are quoted per class. That is the same $95 the big national provider charges for the online six hours, so price is not the thing that should decide this. Who teaches it is.
Can you come do my whole crew at once?
Yes. Twelve or more and I bring the 6 hours to your shop, scheduled around your work, with a roster of who finished. Under twelve, ask anyway. I will either put your crew on a public date or come out if the calendar allows. Shop classes are quoted per class, because crew size, travel and the date all move the number.
Do you sell my email to anybody?
No. One email when registration opens, a renewal reminder if you ask for it, and that is the end of it.
