Approved provider and approved course are two different things, and the gap between them costs people a Saturday.
A provider can be legitimately approved and still sell you a class that earns you nothing. Both halves have to be approved, and most people only check one.
The two approvals
TSBPE approves providers, and it approves courses. A provider on the approved list is authorized to deliver the courses the board approved for them, in the categories the board approved. Not everything on their site.
The board publishes a list of approved providers with a matrix of what each one is approved to deliver: 6 hour CPE, the 24 and 48 hour exam training programs, the 24 hour RMP course, medical gas CPE, and the endorsement exam programs. They are separate columns for a reason.
Where people get caught
- Buying exam training as if it were CPE. Different product, different hours, does not satisfy your annual six.
- Buying a manufacturer class or a supply house seminar that was genuinely educational and carries no approval.
- Buying from a site that says "pending state approval" in small type, which some do, and hoping it lands before the renewal.
The one question to ask
Ask the provider, in writing: what are you approved to deliver, and is this specific course approved for my license type? A real provider answers that in one sentence. Anybody who gets vague has told you the answer.
